Rossendale Raptors
The Raptors approached us to design and build a website that would meet the needs of all of the Rossendale basketball teams—the seniors, women and youth sides. They had seen the Mersey Tigers site and wanted something with similar content and functionality, so we worked with Ken Masser from the Raptors to ensure that we got not only a great looking website, but a website that was easy to update by the club itself.
The website has quite a large number of pages to it and as with any sports teams there are essential components such as fixtures, results and standings that need to be included in an easy to read and easy to administer way. In this case we also had to link directly to Facebook as the main source of news. Naturally, the age group of many of the members is of the generation that use Facebook on a very regular basis and as such it was important to be at the forefront of the site.
To ensure that the website did not become too text-heavy, we added multiple images at the top to give life and movement, as well as show off the teams in action and put faces to the players. In addition, the Raptors have videos which meant that we could link in directly with YouTube to show off their basketball skills and recent matches.
With amateur sports teams, sponsors are very important and as such they need to be recognised wherever possible. On the website we not only included the sponsors on a dedicated sponsor page, but also some of the main sponsors are displayed on every page under the navigation to promote them as much as possible, without becoming the main focus of the website.
